The Grace Primary School celebrated The Week of the Young Child from March 27-March 31.
The Week of the Young Child® (WOTYC) is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world’s largest early childhood education association, with nearly 60,000 members and a network of 52 Affiliates.
Today we know more than ever before about the importance of children’s earliest years in shaping their learning and development. Yet, never before have the needs of young children and their families been more pressing.
The WOTYC aims to focus public attention on young children and their families and recognize the early childhood programs and services that strive to make a difference with the little ones.
“The Week of the Young Child offers a time to focus on and celebrate our Primary School students, staff, and families,” said Maria Barrington, Primary School Principal. “We are highlighting our little gator’s talents, having a great time together, and appreciating our outstanding early childhood professionals who make a difference every day.
The WOTYC presents our students the opportunity to step beyond the walls of the classroom, and into vast open spaces of creativity and imagination. Throughout the week, our youngest gators created andplayed with a multitude of musical instruments, dressed up as their favorite superheroes, engaging in the opportunity to play superheroes themselves collecting perishable items for our community food pantry, and enjoyed a “block party” with their families. We ended the week with a Spring performance for our families and a visit from our Firefighters.
The WOTYC is an important event that highlights the critical role that early childhood education plays in the lives of young children. It is a time to celebrate young children’s unique qualities and recognize early childhood educators’ hard work and dedication. This fun week allowed our students the freedom to apply the knowledge they have learned in their homes and classrooms in a welcoming environment that stimulates curiosity, wonder, and joy!
