The Grace Primary School is excited to celebrate The Week of the Young Child – April 4 through 8.
The Week of the Young Child® (WOTYC) is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world’s largest early childhood education association, with nearly 60,000 members and a network of 52 Affiliates.
Today we know more than ever before about the importance of children’s earliest years in shaping their learning and development. Yet, never before have the needs of young children and their families been more pressing.
The purpose of the WOTYC is to focus public attention on young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that strive to make a difference with the little ones.
“The Week of the Young Child offers a time to focus on and celebrate our Primary School students, staff, and families,” said Maria Barrington, Primary School Principal. “We are highlighting our little gator’s talents, having a great time together, and appreciating our outstanding early childhood professionals who make a difference every day.”
Each day, Primary School plans to celebrate WOTYC in a unique way:
Monday, April 4:
Block Party Monday-An artist can be a painter, writer, sculptor, chef, etc. We want to see our Primary School student’s inner creativity by coming to school dressed as their favorite artist!
Tuesday, April 5:
Tasty Tuesday – We’re bringing out the scrunchies, hairspray, glitter, and bows as our Primary School students celebrate “Wild about Fruit! Crazy about Hair!”
Wednesday, April 6:
Work Together Wednesday-Teamwork makes the dream work! Come dressed as your favorite superhero, including first responders and armed forces.
Thursday, April 7:
Artsy Thursday – It’s Showtime! Come watch our little Gators perform at their Spring Performance. Show starts at 9 a.m. in the Sanctuary.
Friday, April 8:
Rainbow Picnic Friday – To finish out our Week of the Young Child, we will have a picnic lunch in the courtyard and ask that all our Primary School students wear their favorite color that day!
As part of this year’s WOTYC service project, Primary School students will be Superheroes for the Community to collect non-perishable food items for the West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM) food pantry. Students set a goal of the number of laps they will run, which will correlate with the number of canned food items to be donated.
